San Diego - by Reba PDF Print E-mail
dsc_0135.jpgOnce or twice every semester, the Galkin team takes a week off to rest, have fun, and refresh ourselves spiritually.  This last week was our first week off after a long stretch of meetings.  The Galkin family left Phoenix and drove to St. George, Utah where we would have our next week of meetings.  While Christy and the kids enjoyed some fun in this mountain city, Will preached a few days in Sacramento, CA.  The Coffey family left their truck and trailer behind and flew to Seattle, WA to visit Aaron’s sister and her husband.  This left Josh, Caroline, and I to create some fun for ourselves.

Our first stop was the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona.  Caroline had never before seen this amazing sight, so we took the day to drive up and check it out.  The canyon was covered in a few inches of snow and the weather was a little chilly so we didn’t stay very long, but the view was still incredible.  On our way back from the Grand Canyon, we stopped for dinner in Sedona.  We enjoyed a delicious meal and had fried cactus for the first time!  It doesn’t really have a distinct taste except that the cactus is sweet.

The next day we headed across Arizona to San Diego, CA where we would spend the rest of the week.  Josh and Christy’s sister, Shannon Rohrer, lives in San Diego, so Josh was able to stay with his sister, and Caroline and I enjoyed getting to know her and her family.

One of the highlights of the week was meeting the dear people of Faith Community Bible Church in El Cajon, CA.  We were able to spend a lot of time with the Rohrer family and ministered alongside with their church family on Sunday.  Their hospitality and giving to us was an unexpected blessing that made our week off even more special.

Another highlight was seeing the sights of the beautiful city of San Diego.  Caroline and I stayed in Old Town and spent some time looking around in the shops and eating at some authentic Mexican restaurants.  The three of us also went to Coronado Island and walked along the beach.  Of course a trip to San Diego would not be complete without visiting the San Diego Zoo.  In the end a good time was had by all, and we left the city feeling refreshed and ready for our next stretch of meetings.  Now our whole team is together again enjoying the beautiful sights, weather, and people of St. George, Utah.
